File Converter

Images: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC (iPhone photos), TIFF, BMP, GIF, SVG, Photoshop (PSD), ICO, ICNS, TGA and the Netpbm formats (PPM, PGM, PBM) can be turned into JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, TGA, ICO, ICNS, CUR, EPS and more, and any image can become a PDF. Photoshop files are converted from their flattened image, without separate layers. GIFs are converted from their first frame, and SVGs are drawn at their own size.

Documents: Word (DOCX), OpenDocument (ODT), plain text, Markdown, HTML, RTF and the EPUB and FB2 e-book formats convert into each other, and into PDF. PDFs can be turned into images (JPG, PNG, WebP and more, one per page, in a ZIP when there are several pages) or into text, Word, Markdown and the other document formats. A scanned PDF holds pictures rather than text, so it can only become images. Headings and lists from Word files are kept in HTML, Markdown, EPUB, ODT and FB2, and become plain lines in Word, RTF and PDF files. Pictures inside an EPUB aren't carried over.

Data and spreadsheets: Excel (XLSX, XLSM, XLSB and the older XLS), OpenDocument (ODS), Apple Numbers (opening only), JSON, JSON Lines, CSV, TSV, XML, YAML, TOML, INI and Apple property lists (PLIST) all convert into each other, and any of them can become SQL insert statements, a Markdown table or an HTML table. Tables become lists of records, and lists of records become tables. A workbook with several sheets keeps them as separate sections in JSON or YAML, and turns back into the same sheets.

Audio: MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus, FLAC and AIFF convert into each other, and any video can become an audio file, such as MP4 to MP3. M4R makes an iPhone ringtone from the first 40 seconds.

Subtitles: SRT, WebVTT (VTT) and YouTube SBV subtitles convert into each other with their timings, or into plain text with just the words.

Video: MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV and TS convert into each other, any video can become a still image (a frame from one second in) or an animated GIF (10 frames a second, up to 480 pixels wide and the first 30 seconds). Going the other way, an animated GIF can become an MP4, WebM or MOV video. MP4, MOV and TS files use H.264 video and AAC sound, so they play on phones, Macs and TVs. When a video already uses the right codecs, it's repackaged without re-encoding, so there's no loss in quality.

Archives: ZIP, TAR and TAR.GZ archives convert into each other, and a GZ file can be opened into any of them. When you convert several files, Download all gives you every result in one ZIP.

Fonts: TTF, OTF and WOFF fonts convert into each other.

Each file type can only become certain others. A photo can become a PDF, but not a spreadsheet; a CSV can become JSON, but not a JPG. Instead of showing every format and failing later, the "To" menu is built from your file, so every option in it works.

If a file can't be converted, for example because it's damaged or isn't really the format its name says, the converter tells you instead of giving you a broken file.
